Soren Rose living room

Sleek, minimalist and contemporary, Scandinavian design is the embodiment of simple sophistication. With clean lines and colour palettes, these pieces can sit within contemporary or more rustic settings creating light and uncluttered spaces.

The concept behind this design movement came from the egalitarian ideal that beautiful and functional objects should not only be affordable to the wealthy but to the masses as well, Today the popularity of this design aesthetic can be clearly seen in the success of the retail giant IKEA, where on any given day across the world homeowners of varying age, economic status and ethnicity can be found in droves navigating their monster showrooms.

As the trend toward fast fashion trickles into our shrinking interior spaces, Scandinavian design will continue to grow in popularity and relevance. With affordable pieces that are fashion forward and multi functional they fill the needs of the masses...just as they were intended.

High tea for Mother's Day

Amy Little - Thursday, April 26, 2012

This Mother's Day why not spoil your mum with High tea, or even better, get creative and make your own at home!

On recent shopping trips I have seen many High tea displays with lovely cake stands, recipe books and decorative ideas throughout many homeware stores, just in time for Mother's Day.

The must haves for your high tea include triangle sandwiches, scones with jam & cream, macaroons, cake slices and of course tea! Start of with a glass of champagne to make it special.

Make sure you top it all off with great decorations. See the below images for inspiration.

White-on-white

Amy Little - Friday, March 16, 2012

Elegant, crisp and subtle. The use of white-on-white has been a clear interior trend for the past year and rightly so.

Many people would consider white to not be an actual colour, more of a base, however the images below show it can be used to create a beautiful space.

Teaming varying shades of white and neutrals can work together to create a dreamy, soft space for your living area or bedroom, where bright whites can be used in bathrooms and kitchens to create an always fresh look

Fancy napkins

Amy Little - Friday, February 24, 2012

On a recent shoot we decided to play with new way of displaying our napkins in front of the camera. Using 'Napkins with a twist' by David Stark as inspiration, we tried a variety of different methods to give the tabletops an extra element of creativity.

I would recommend this as a great thing to do at home for dinner parties or special occassion not just to impress your friends but simply as a nice piece of extra decor. You will get a 10 on the presentation front!

Thought I would share some images of some extreme fancy napkins - if you have the time and patience give them a go!

Ways to use a throw rug

Amy Little - Tuesday, January 31, 2012

A throw rug is a great accessory for your home or garden furnishings, however it is often hard to find the perfect way to use them in your home. Depending on your space and furniture, take a look at some of the below suggestions for succesful decorating using a throw.

Bed layering

Your throw doesn't always have to be used in the living area, they can also make a great addition to bedspreads. By draping a rug over the bed you can great a cosy look, else folding it neatly across the middle or end of the bed creates a great layering effect. If you have neutral sheets try faux fur or a bright throw for a pop of colour.

Casual drape

Draping a throw over the side/back of a chair creates a relaxed and comfortable look which is great for any living room or casual area. This is best for a rug you will be using often, as you can throw it back over the chair after use.

Sofa back

This is one of the more popular ways to use a throw rug, as simple decor. Having a range of rugs to swap and use over the back of the sofa can allow you to instantly change the feel of the room, and can be a cheap way to redecorate and reinvigorate the space. Layering cushions around and on top of the rug gives a great decorative effect.

Corner throw

Throwing a rug over 2 sides of a chair or lounge is another easy way to decorate. Using a throw with tassled or frayed edges works well with this technique to add a textured effect.

Splash of colour!

Amy Little - Tuesday, January 17, 2012

New year, new home decor?

If you are looking at redecorating some of your rooms at home, take a look at one of the current trends in both fashion and interiors at the moment - Bold splashes of colour!

Adding elements of bold colour to a neutral room instantly creates a mood and livens up the space. It also is a great way to save on new furnishings and decor. By only adding or changing a few cushions, rugs and ornaments it allows you to cut back spending on a full room revamp whilst still getting a great change.

Have a look www.rapee.com.au and the images below for some interior colour inspiration, and keep an eye out for our new Winter 2012 range coming out soon!

Amy Little - Monday, January 09, 2012

The team at Rapee are back in the office and we hope you  had a great Christmas and New Year break.

We look forward to the year ahead with our next catalogue being released and a new range of new designs being created!

What are you looking forward to in the New Year? Have you decided to make any changes, or created a New Year's resolution which you hope to stick with?

A great way to kick start the new year is to create a list of goals or things you wish to achieve for the year - you could liken it to a 'bucket list' but for the coming year. It's a great way to stick to your goals and look forward to achieving the things you wish to accomplish this year. Below are some ideas to help you out with your list:

- Walk or cycle to work

- Visit a new country

- Spend a night in a fancy hotel

- Skydive

- Take a creative class

- Go on a detox for one month

The lists are endless, everyone has different ideas for the goals they wish to achieve, from taking a gym class to climbing Mt Kilimanjaro you should set some steady goals for yourself to help you bring in the New Year and gain some invaluable experiences.

All of us at Rapee wishe you the best start to 2012 , and we look forward to sharing our new range with you!

Christmas sparkle!

Sophie Fay - Tuesday, December 13, 2011

It’s that time of year again  - Christmas has crept upon us ! Only 2 weeks away, it’s time to get into the festive spirit, decorating & preparing for the festivities.

Whilst recently attempting to get some Christmas shopping done, many retail displays and Christmas decorations have caught my eye. Great Christmas decor really brings that celebratory feeling to life, and I am loving the  glittery, sparkly trend that is appearing in many displays this year.

I have always thought that  too much glitz can look a little tacky, however Christmas is an exception. From our Rapee shimmer placemats to glittery baubles  there is a world of options for using sparkle in your decorations this year.

You can even DIY decor. Take a look here for tips on how to make your own decorative Christmas cone - to frost with as much sparkles as you like!

Merry Christmas from the team at Rapee, see you all in the New Year!

Winter 2012 Location Shoot - Not as glamorous as you might have thought!

Sophie Fay - Friday, November 11, 2011

Yes, crazy I know...who can even think of winter as we head into Summer! For goodness sake, you haven't even started your Christmas shopping! But in this crazy world of soft furnishings we found ourselves last week, propping cups of hot chocolates and fluffing fur throws to achieve some amazing lifestyle shots of our upcoming winter range.

I always had minor aspirations of presenting in front of a camera...think Nigella or Noni from Playschool, indeed this seemed a glamorous existence to aspire too! However very quickly after working a couple of days on a location shoot any ambitions of a life on set quickly melt away....there is no glamour in this, just time, detail, tweaking, more time, detail.. which all requires just more patience than I could possibly muster!

On the plus side it is inspiring to work with such an ingenious bunch, who are sharing clever ideas with careless abandon and every now and then collide in their creative pursuits...It is fun, occassionally comical but most of all results in some amazing images.

A big thank you to the team...Mon, Chantal, Christie, Dan, Maree, Lisa, Rachel & Anne. I have included some shots below of our team on the days so that you too can enjoy the creative vibe!
